Submission Guidelines

We are currently seeking submissions of poetry, short fiction, photography, visual art, and other art forms for both our print and web editions. Before making a submission, please read the guidelines below. Though failure to stay within the lines is hardly grounds for dismissing an otherwise brilliant submission, we suggest that you stick to the guidelines as much as possible. In all cases, we pay for first online or first print publication rights, so please send only work that has never been published elsewhere, except on your personal webpage or blog.

Please note: We accept simultaneous submissions, but if you are sending your work to other journals as well, please let us know when you first send it to us, and let us know immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

Poetry
We are looking for your best poetry. We take every submission seriously, and we expect our writers to do the same. Please check for any spelling errors before sending your piece, and if any errors are intentional, please let us know. Please send 1-4 poems in a single attachment (.doc or .rtf file) to editor@1097mag.com. Your subject line should read: Your last name_Poetry, so if your name is Stanislaw Lem, your email subject line would be Lem_Poetry. Poetry turnaround time varies from 1 week to 2 months, but if you do not hear from us in 2 months, please send another email and ask us. Quick turnaround is important, and we will let you know as quickly as we physically can. We currently pay $5 US per accepted poem, plus a free one-year subscription to the print edition.

Short Fiction
We are looking for unique and interesting fiction, both in flash (1000 words max) and short story (6000 words max) formats. Send 1-2 stories to editor@1097mag.com, in a single attachment (.doc or .rtf file). Your subject line should read: Your last name_Fiction. Fiction turnaround time is between 2 weeks and 2 months. If you have not recieved a reply from us within two months, please contact us at the same email address. We currently pay $5 US for flash fiction and $10 US for short stories, as well as a free one-year subscription to the print edition.

Photography and Visual Art
Visual art is a big part of both the print and web editions of 1097 Magazine. We are looking for your best work in any medium (photographs, sketches, paintings, photos of sculptures, etc). Please send 1-4 high-resolution images to 1097art@gmail.com, attached as a JPEG or GIF file. The subject line of your email should be: Your last name_Your medium, so if you are John Smith and you are sending us photographs, your subject line would be Smith_Photo. We currently pay $10 per image, as well as a free one-year subscription to the print edition.

Other Art Forms
There are more forms of art, especially on the web, than we could possibly list here. Sound art, animation, dynamic poetry - it all has a place here at 1097 Magazine, if we feel it is interesting and unique. Please send us a link to your work, or a sound file in the case of audio art, to 1097art@gmail.com with the subject as "Your Last Name_Other", so if you are Tom Jones, your email subject would be Jones_Other. Prices for multimedia and "other" art work is negotiated on an individual basis, but will always include a free one-year subscription to the print edition as well as a small monetary payment.

Thanks for your interest in 1097 Magazine. We all look forward to seeing and reviewing your work.
